It is told in the northwest of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides that seals could come ashore, shed their skin, and take on human form. While walking among us, a selchie would have to marry a man who could discover and hide her seal skin from her. She would then have to remain married until she could find the skin and return to the sea. It is further told that some could recognize the “children of the water” by their eyes – whilst walking among us, their eyes would reflect a certain sadness, a longing for the sea.
The Selchie Pen is designed to reflect that longing. The cap metalwork shows the female becoming part of a Celtic spiral which, in turn, becomes the seal. The sleeve, rings, and “waves & sand” finial medallions are all formed in nickel silver and set off by a dark blue resin with translucent blue waves throughout the material.
The pen is built around 13mm cap threads, converter filling mechanism, and a Jowo #6 nib. Dimensions: 147mm overall, 137mm open including nib, and a weight of 35g.
